Song Lyrics - When I Get To Where I'm Going

WHEN I GET TO WHERE I'M GOING

When I get where I'm going
On the far side of the sky
The first thing that I'm gonna do
Is spread my wings and fly

I'm gonna land beside a lion
And run my fingers through his mane
Or I might find out what it's like
To ride a drop of rain

Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here

I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I missed him
Every minute since he left
Then I'll hug his neck

So much pain and so much darkness
In this world we stumble through
All these questions I can't answer
So much work to do

But when I get where I'm going
And I see my maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of his amazing grace
Yeah when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
Hallelujah
I will love and have no fear
When I get where I'm going
Yeah when I get where I'm going

Song Lyrics - Believe

BELIEVE

Old man Wrigley lived in that white house
Down the street where I grew up
Momma used to send me over with things
We struck a friendship up
I spent a few long summers out on his old porch swing

Says he was in the war when in the navy
Lost his wife, lost his baby
Broke down and asked him one time
How ya keep from going crazy
He said I'll see my wife and son in just a little while
I asked him what he meant
He looked at me and smiled, said

I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what I can see
Oh I believe

Few years later I was off at college
Talkin' to mom on the phone one night
Getting all caught up on the gossip
The ins and outs of the small town life
She said oh by the way son, old man Wrigley's died.

Later on that night, I laid there thinkin' back
Thought 'bout a couple long-lost summers
I didn't know whether to cry or laugh
If there was ever anybody deserved a ticket to the other side
It'd be that sweet old man who looked me in the eye, said

I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what I can see

I can't quote the book
The chapter or the verse
You can't tell me it all ends
In a slow ride in a hearse
You know I'm more and more convinced
The longer that I live
Yeah, this can't be
No, this can't be
No, this can't be all there is

When I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what I can see
I believe
Oh, I
I believe
I believe
I believe
I believe
I believe

Song Lyrics - Freebird

This is one of Jackie's favorite songs and was played during the slide show at her memorial service.

FREEBIRD
If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be traveling on, now,
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change.

Bye, bye, its been a sweet love.
Though this feeling I can't change.
But please don't take it badly,
'Cause Lord knows I'm to blame.
But, if I stayed here with you girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you'll never change.
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change.
Lord help me, I can't change.

Eulogy by Angela Stone

When I Get to Where I’m Going. That just about says it all. For those who knew Jackie, you can imagine what her final destination must be like. Full of bells and lights and winning jackpots . . . a place that is wide open.

Just like Jackie, wide open, the way she lived her life.

Her heart was wide open to anyone who had a need. If you needed anything and she could provide it, it was yours. Christmas with Jackie was magical. You could see in her face that she loved giving gifts. Her generosity is a lasting tribute to the kindness in her heart.

Her friendship was wide open for the taking. Her ability to completely see past any societal barriers is well known. As Angela wrote in her poem, Jackie saw past what most people see. Age, color, prejudices. Jackie knew no strangers and for that we must be thankful.

Jackie’s nurturing personality allowed her to be a helpmate to her husband. Kevin is blessed to have had such a friend and partner in his life. He will always remember the love that went into every day of their life together. Her love for him was shown in many ways but none more precious than the everyday tasks of preparing his meals and making sure he was dressed for work every day. Some days she would have him dressed and ready to go before he even woke up.

Jackie had many treasures in her life including her son Brad whom Jackie was so proud of. He provided her with grandchildren to brag on to all of her friends. She reminded folks frequently what a wonderful son she had, how well he had done growing up without a Daddy. What a skilled carpenter he is. She had plans to spend more time with Brad, Meagan, Breana, & Bradley and of course the new grandbaby. Jackie wanted to be the “coolest” grandma ever. That opportunity is now gone but not wasted. Honor her memory by sharing her stories with your children Brad.

Jackie’s high energy meant she was always talking, always telling stories, always taking chances.

A chance opportunity put Kevin and Jackie together and brought her to Texas. And while she may have lost her “Yankee” accent, she never lost her “Yankee” roots. Her connection to her brothers and sisters was strong. Strong enough to span the many miles between them. She spoke with them every few days and entertained her Texas family with stories about them. There is now a bond between her two families. Jackie is a Yankee with a Heart the size of Texas.

The reason she was able to be here so easily is because she was comfortable anywhere. I’ve never known of a woman so comfortable in her own skin. Now while Jackie has gone to be with God, her earthly remains will be returned to Michigan. Her memory will be honored here as well. Very soon we will have a memorial garden in Beckville, Texas to honor the joy she brought to her Texas family.

For those of you with unfinished business with Jackie, you should know this one thing.
Jackie didn't end a chance meeting with you or a conversation without telling you she loved you.
When she left this earth it was with no hard feelings and she would have said
“Love ya, pal”
